Informative Reference-Selection and usage of packings and working fluid
    for hydraulic cylinders
    This Informative Reference describes the items to be considered when select.
ing and using packings to be incorporated into the double acting hydraulic cylin—
ders specified in the text of this Standard.
    It is desirable to apply this to cylinders other than those specified in this Standard.
1..l...t...e...m......s......f..0....r.....s...e....l..e....c...t..i...n....9......p....a....c...k....i..n....9...。s.The cylinder packings shall not be selected
by considering one particular item independently,but be selected by taking into
account of mutual relationships between materials,working fluid,temperature,
pressure and speed to be used.
Items for selection are as follows:
1::l.)—Compatibility of working fl—uid with packing material    While it is difficult
    to make working fluid correspond to packing material unconditionally,be—
    cause the compatibility of working fluid with rubber varies depending on    、
    additives and the like,a yardstick of selection is shown in Informative Ref-
    erence Table l.

2.With regard to nitrile rubber,when use such working nuid that the stan.
    dard rubber(e.g.such standard rubber as spec洫ed in IS0 6072 and JOHS
    107 established by the Japan Oil Hydraulics and Pneumatic Association)
    to be used for evaluating the compatibility of the fluid with the packings
    used becomes particularly swelled,the user is requested to consult the seal
    manufacturer.

Materials of urethane rubber should be equivalent t0,or better t§an ure-
thane rubber of caprolactone in resistance to heat and hot water
For metal packings,the materials compatible with the working i[uid used
should be selected.
5.When working fluid or material of packing other than the above is used,it
 shall be agreed between the purchaser and supplier.
Temperature range applicable to materials of packing A yardstic k of the
temperature ranges applicable to materials of packing is shown in:nforma-
tive Reference Table 2.

The temperatures on sliding surface is presupposed to be within!0。C
above the oil temperatures shown in Table above.
When materials of low or high temperatures are to be used,the S≥al manu-
facturer shah be informed to that effect.
To the temperature range applicable to cloth-inserted rubber,the range in
which the rubber can be used shall correspondingly applied.
The temperature range applicable to metal packings varies deper.ding on
the kind of metal used.
Recommended temperature range for working fluid The recomme aded
temperature range on application of working fluids is shown in Inf0:mative
Refe:rence Table 3.

Remarks l.图圆indicates the temperature ranges in which the working fluid can be
    used steadily over a relatively long period of time without causing any
    trouble in its stabilization.
2.
It is considered that the general mineral working oil above has a viscosity
grade ISO VG 32 specified in JIS K 2001.
3.When working fluid above is used at a temperature exceeding the specified
 temperature range,its user is requested to consult seal manufacturers,
 because there are some problems in respect of the compatibility of working
 fluid with packing material.

Note(1)
When the V-packing is used by stacking single pieces of rubber Oil ty,it
should be preferable to consult wi也the seal manufacturers.
Remarks l.The packings shall be ofHs 90±5 in rubber hardness.Regarding the
    hardnesses other than these,the maximum permissible working I ressure
   varies according to the hardness of rubber.The combination seal lhall be
    exempt from this application.

2.The protruding clearance of packing has been assumed as about H 9/f 8.
3.The configuration diagrams ofpacking are given for example.
4.For the applicable ranges,the ranges of the ambient temprature given in
 3.2 in the text and the piston speed(Table l in the text)of 3.4 in the te】(t
 should be applied.
(5) Relationship between packings and their sliding speeds The maximum
    permissible piston speed is greatly affected not by the shape of a packing
    but by its material.
Maximum permissible piston speeds are roughly given in Reference Table 5
when packings are used within the maximum permissible working pressure
ranges given in Informative Reference Table 4 and within the temperature
ranges given in 3.of the text of this Standard.
